Meet Vimala and Grace, two of the four million people reached by WaterCredit.
Vimala is an agricultural laborer living in South India where she is raising her family. Because she had no water connection at home, Vimala used to spend three hours every morning retrieving it from a local source. Dozens from the community, including Vimala, shared the tap. They were limited to two vessels each day. This amount was barely enough for drinking and cooking. Things beyond this, like gardening or regular baths, were just a dream. Through Water.org’s WaterCredit program, the couple took out an affordable loan. Vimala's dream for water at home came true. With their loan, the couple constructed a water tap. Vimala recalls her feelings after the project was complete, “It was a wonderful feeling to see clean water flow from our tap at home. I can proudly say we have what we need.” By making a donation to Water.org you can change lives and make simple dreams come true. Then together, let’s raise a glass of safe water and toast to hope and opportunity everywhere. For Grace and her family in Kenya, a loan helped them install a rainwater catchment system and water tank. Grace envisioned the day when her young daughter would no longer have to walk to collect water. Now, with every rainy day, her hope turns into a beautiful reality. Watch Grace tell her story here. |
Meet Jopelutuvakasiga Nasara, one of the many in Vatusekiyawa who trek to find clean drinking water
Jopelutuvakasiga Nasara is a member of the Vatusekiyawa village which is home to 200 fijians. Jope is a father, husband, and friend to many people of the village because of his friendly nature, coridal mannerisms, but primarily because he is the one responsible for obtaining clean drinking water. Every day he treks up the top of the moutain to salvage clean drinking water from the large vats that store rain water. Even though the water is not entirely clean, it is the best that the villagers can acquire. To many in the village, Jope is a village warrior and sustainable drinking water hero. |
Meet Jim Berkely, founder of World Renowned "Destinations and Travels"
Jim Berkley is an adventure guru, global citizen, and is the founder & CEO of Destinations and Travels. Jim's travel company has won the Condé Nast Traveler Magazine Top Travel Consultant & Destination Specialist Award for Egypt and Jordan fifteen times in a row — from 2001-2015. Before creating D&T, Jim experienced drinking unsustainable drinking water while living in Monterrey, Mexico and Cairo, Egypt. To combat the dirty water epidemic, Jim used the boiling water technique. Boiling water is the most effective purifying technique if you do not have means of purification. Even sustainable drinking water sanctuaries around the globe can have poor water purification systems due to poor up-keep, high expensives, and lack of resources. |
